Greetings Math Students,

Here is the work for a Monday night:

All groups...pages 175 and 176 due for WEDNESDAY!

*Just kicking off our unit 8 (Geometry)
*This is a heavy VOCABULARY unit, the kids will be working with that Vocab on 3 fronts:

1.  A green sheet with definitions and drawings.
2.  The hard cover books has not gone home much, but the glossary and unit pages are super helpful!
3.  The kids started a Keynote project today in which they are taking photos of the geometry words in action on our playground.  They are then building a presentation on their ipads.

*Math will only have lessons this week Wednesday and Friday.  We'll give them some breaks due to M-stepping Tuesday and Thursday

Take care.

Greetings one and all,

Here is the homework for a Tuesday night:

pages 171 and 172 for all groups!

Comparing decimals.  Line those decimals up and match up the place values.  Don't let them fool you just by adding more numbers.  It's all about where the decimal is located.

*Unit 7 Test Monday, May 2

Go get'em,

MR. K

Greetings one and all,

Here is the math homework for a Monday night:

Mango and Papaya:  pages 169 and 170

Kiwi:  only 169

Today we are working on writing mixed numbers and improper fractions as decimals.

For example 2 1/10 would be written as 2.1

You might have an improper fractions such as 11/10.  You simply could divide numerator and denominator like we did in the last unit to get 1 and 1/10, then write it as 1.1

***Unit 7 test will be next Monday, May 2 for all groups!

That's all folks,

MR. K

Greetings Math Students,

Here is the homework for a Thursday night:

pages 165 and 166 for Friday

We're working on showing the relationship between fractions and decimals.  We are only working with the TENTHS and HUNDREDTHS.  Most of our comparisons deal with $$$$.

We're pulling fractions apart and using the names, such as 1/10 would be 1 of 10 equal parts.

Reminding kids that pennies are 0.01, nickles are 0.05, dimes are 0.10, and quarters are 0.25

**Look for the Unit 7 test to be Monday, May 2.  I was looking at next week, but Mrs. Fiore has a bunch of stuff with Social Studies due, so let's back off and get some extra practice and go in May instead.

Take care.

YIKES!!!

I'm not back in my good habits yet...I've neglected to fill in the block here for Monday and Tuesday...SO SORRY!!!

Here we go...the homework for Math on a Tuesday night is:

All groups...pages 157 and 158

*We're working to turn fractions into EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS.

**Remember the RULE...whatever I do to the numerator...I MUST do the same thing to the denominator!

Tuesday we really focused on multiplying and making the numerator and the denominator larger.  Today, we focused on SIMPLIFYING FRACTIONS, using division to make the fractions smaller.  We used the phrase they use in the Limbo competition, "HOW LOW CAN YOU GO?"

Best of luck everyone, you'll do great.
